StarCraft Remastered is a classic space strategy RTS game developed by Blizzard Entertainment and released in 2017 on PC. In the game, players will take part in the galactic conflict between three different races, fighting for their place in the galaxy. The Remastered Edition features upgraded visuals and several improvements in gameplay mechanics, adjusting the game to the current standards. Besides the original game and the full campaign, the new game's edition features StarCraft: Brood Wars expansion as well. Moreover, developers added a new, fully supported multiplayer mode.
Starcraft Story Background
The action of the game takes place in the distant future. Far away, on the other side of the Milky Way, there is a place known as the Koprulu Sector. This is the place where the Terran Empire, representing the human species, encounters alien races for the first time. One of them are Protoss - extremely intelligent and technologically advanced beings. Zergs on the other hand are ferocious, primitive creatures. Their only goal is to grow in strength and destroy any other life form. Eventually, differences between these races started the war which will change the galaxy forever.
Starcraft Remastered Gameplay Mechanics
StarCraft Remastered focuses mainly on improving the game's graphics and visual effects. That is why the developers decided not to change any gameplay mechanics. The game offers the same classic RTS experience. During the gameplay, players will have to collect resources, build new constructions, train units, and fight with enemies during real-time battles.
The game features three playable factions, each with different pros, cons, and strategies. The Terrans are the representation of the human race. They are the most universal of the three races. One of their biggest advantages is the possibility to transport the whole buildings, which makes them extremely mobile. Protoss are strong and can use extremely advanced technology, significantly ahead of any other race, however, their development is very expensive, making it difficult to expand their empire or train new units. Zergs can be seen as the complete opposite of Protoss. They are a weak, feral race but their strength is in number. Zerg units are very cheap and they can be created very rapidly. Their tactic is to overwhelm the enemy with hordes of low-cost, weak units. The game features six different story campaigns, two per race, as well as renewed multiplayer mode, supporting advanced matchmaking, and other new online features.
Reception
The game received many positive opinions from players and reviewers. Most of them appreciated the fact that the game offers the same, classic StarCraft gameplay experience, with a significant graphics upgrade.
